So this issue only comes up after driving for about 40 minutes at about 70 mph. I can idle in the driveway for an hour with no issues, and drive around town with no issues so far....
It feels like the jeep loses fuel flow to the system and starts to choke or die....but then suddenly it gets fuel and takes off....
I can pull over and rev the engine in neutral and it sounds great. Or after letting the Jeep sit for a while it runs fine again. This has happened 3 times twice in the evening just as I was getting home from work so it sat overnight....and finally this morning just as I was getting to work (40 minute freeway drive).
I have neon injectors that I installed last summer. Over the weekend I did a complete coolant flush, new fuel filter (old one had rusty fuel discharge) and new spark plugs(old ones were champion and the ceramic section had a reddish/orange color)....The engine is not overheating and I do not see any exhaust leaks around the header. I have no experience with the MAP,IAC,TPS,CPS or o2 sensors....but will be testing them and the ground systems according to info I find on the site...just throwing this issue out and seeing if anyone can think of an obvious fix or starting point before I dig in

idle sensor in the throttle body i had the same problem, you can take it out and clean it if it is dirty and that usually fixes ur problem.
Your IAC man, is on back of throttle body

Update.......
Enjoying a cold beer at a small cafe, waiting for a tow truck. Just gonna send it to my brother in laws shop and let him hunt the issue down.
Before leaving work i pulled the throttle body and cleaned the ips sensor( it had a metal tube?) It was covered in black gunk.....no effect....
It sounds great when parked and on neutral...idles at around 800-900 rpm. It doesnt act abnormal until i am in gear and moving......it just seems like it loses fuel flow, pressing the gas just seems to flood it then it will lurch and backfire up front near the header...plugs, coil, cap are all new....could CPS be doing this?

A buddy of mind had a similiar problem with his 97 Cherokee. His would sputter and miss under hard acceleration. If gradual pedal was applied the jeep would get up to 70mph no problem, but if you tried to make her get up and go, she'd stumble. After replacing the cap, rotor, plugs, and the O2 sensor. We checked the catalytic converter, it was plugged up tighter than heck! We replaced it and the Jeep had power like she was new!! That was several months ago, hasn't had a problem since. Hope this helps!!

Just an update, late, but never the less an update. the culprit was the forward 02 sensor...looked like it was stock and was coated with a reddish brown....I used my buddies OBDII tool to find it....there was no engine light but I pulled code p0141. Went ahead and installed a Flowkooler water pump while I was down too
