Default 96 fuel pump isolator too big?

i'm trying to replace a fuel pump for a customer at the my shop and since a whole unit isn't available he bought just the pump. the problem is the isolator that it came with is far too big. i called a different parts place and asked them to deliver a different brand pump.....it had the same isolator. the customer came back to the shop and grabed his new pump and went ti the store he bought it from but they had no luck finding a different isolator.

has anyone ever ran into problem?

the black rubber piece that sits under the fuel pump and helps hold the sock on.

looks like the piece in this guy's hand.

here's a couple more to give you a idea of how it all goes together... i took this from a 240 forum but it's the same idea.

the problem i'm having is that the isolator fits the bottom of the fuel pump fine but is no where near correct for the fuel pump module frame. the customer's jeep has 170k on it and the pump/ module looks original, it's really rotted and rusty and should be replaced but can't get one. i know i can't be the only one that has run into this problem...... and why the hell isn't someone offering a complete module?

I bought the complete assy from Autozone a couple years ago, don't know why they wouldn't still offer them. I just checked Rockauto and they still offer them for my '91 but not the '96, strange. Coach

Your 91 probably has a fuel return. I see them for the XJ with a return but not after till the 97+. Yeah weird.
