'96 Clutch Interlock switch
So from what I've been able to gather the '96 and older do not have this switch and the '97 and newer do? Has anyone actually verified this? My problem is- the shop failed my '96 today because the Jeep starts in gear. I either need a part which I can't find anywhere (including the dealer) to fix the problem or proof that it came this way from the factory. If anyone has any insight on this I'd greatly appreciate it

Just realized you have a manual transmission. |
My '96 definitely starts in gear. I don't know if it is suppose to or not, but it does. Evidently, in Virginia they either don't fail them for that, or they realized it came that way, or they didn't check. I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

I know the '97 has a Clutch Interlock Switch. It shows it in the wiring diagrams.
My '95 diagrams do not show the switch. I don't have '96 FSM or wiring diagrams. If you can get a '96 Owner's Manual it may say something about it. Here's the page out of my '99 Owner's Manual that gives the starting instructions for a manual transmission. Note that it mentions the interlock system. Attachment 308577 |
I've got the '96 owners manual, so I'll check if I can remember this weekend and let you guys know. Thanks for the follow up.
