Default '96 cherokee need shocks recommendation

I try to buy parts myself to save money, and discovered there are about a zillion types of shocks that fit my cherokee sport...what would you recommend, practical for daily highway commute but suitable for off highway, sometimes pretty rough stuff but not exactly rock-crawling. I don't have a lift kit but maybe someday...

bilsteins hands down the one of the best shocks made. that being said, many here are roughcountry jock riders so I'm sure they will say roughcountry shocks.

I did Bilsteins a couple thousand miles ago. I like the way they handle. A bit on the pricey side at 230 for 4 from Summit racing. Thats the cheapest I could find them.

I was in the same boat you are when I was looking around. I ended up just getting some Gariel Pro Guard shocks from Autozone. They run $25 a pop, reason I went with them is that when I do decide to get the lift kit, almost every kit I was looking at come with new shocks for the lift. So why blow $200+ on high quality shocks just to swap em out when you do the lift. just my 2 cents. They seem a little rough, but thats only due to they were all shot when i swapped mine out...to the point i needed up running around with no shock on the front passenger side cuz i got tired of hearing the raddle haha.

I like my Monroe Sensa-Tracs. Good for daily driving, not too stiff, better than 15 year old factory busted shocks for sure. There is a $40 factory rebate if you buy 4 right now. Advance Auto has them for decent.

I am looking at less expensive for now, likely I will put a lift kit on in a year or so. Thanks for the heads-up on the Monroe rebate, I was looking at those. Are they good for a little rough-roading?

Rough-roading, maybe. But off-roading, probably not so much. Hey, make sure the rebate is still in effect, get all 4 Sensatracs in your Advance Auto online cart, then use the coupon code "RETMENOT123" and get $30 off.

You can get 4 new shocks delivered free for a total of $125.96 and then get a $40 mail in rebate off of that! That's what I did. Less than $100 for some good everyday shocks. If you want to upgrade after your lift it won't hurt your pocketbook so bad.
