Could this be why it was heating up?

In my amateur opinion, that is most definitely cracked.

Unfortunately it's a real question...
I bought this jeep with intent to fix it and learn at the same time. Ive replaced the radiator, water pump, t-stat, rad cap, power steering lines, starter, etc... after I started smelling what To me smelled like anti freeze, I decided to remove the head. This is what I found. I was gonna take it to a machine shop. They were gonna charge 20$ just to look at it. I really just need confirmation. I realize it does look pretty cracked ...

At this point the head needs to be replaced. That's the 0630 head, go to a junk yard and find a replacement. Take it to a shop to make sure its not warped, you can replace the valve seals if you like, put on a new head gasket and slap it on.

Wont cost you more than a couple hundred bucks tops and some of your time.

You have 2 cracks there. the head is toast i wouldn't even waste the gas to take it a shop and pay them $20 dollars to tell you it's toast. you could probably find a decent used one off a running jeep for pretty cheap.

Well looks like I found the problem. Thanks for quick responses. I'll be looking for a new head now I guess. If I wanted to buy new, where should I look? I've already called junk yards in my city and they rarely have Cherokees ... might be tough to find here.

I apologize for laughing but this is the internet and people troll. Welcome to Jeep life. That head is definitely gone. Depending on what you're doing with the jeep, maybe going with a clearwater replacement head might be the best bet instead of a junkyard head.

Don't worry, most people on forums expect everybody to know everything they know so if you ask a question like this you deserve to be laughed at. Great learning environment right!

Jeepers are definitely a sarcastic bunch. The question was answered, with only a little bit of a hard time thrown in for good measure.
