96 Cherokee coolant sensor question
Looking to install an auto meter electric temp gauge to replace the water temp idiot light in the dash, the autometer sender is 1/8 npt thread, but it doesn't seem to fit in the original sender location which is located in the rear of the block next to the valve cover, wondering if anyone has successfully added an aftermarket sender to the location or happens to know the thread size of the original sender, both senders look near identical don't know why the auto meter sender won't thread in. I have read every thread I can find, don't like the idea of adding a T fitting to the thermostat housing sensor location. If possible would like to utilize the block location.
Thanks
Thanks
I just did this a few months ago.
I bought a meter/kit from oreielly and the sender that came with it screwed right into the threads on the head by the firewall. IIRC it was 1/8th.
The gauge I bought was an equus, I cant find the package but I think it was a 6262.

So hopefully someone can jump in and help me a bit too....
My XJs temp gauge has never worked. I went to Autozone to get a new sensor thinking it would fix the problem. I am confused as I have read multiple posts saying the temp gauge is the one connected to the thermostat housing and the rear sensor in the valve cover controls the electric fan and vice versa. I have replaced the sensor in the thermostat housing and no luck even though the dude at Autozone thought as well as I did that the sensor in the t-housing was the temp gauge. My electric fan worked in the past but since I've replaced the t-housing sensor I haven't checked to see if it still works and like I said, have no idea if that sensor even controls it
