hmmm i do not know if this will help or anything.... but i kept doing that and it ended up being the wiring going to the o2 sensor on the headers. the wiring comes out of the front of the fuel wiring rail and down. Mine melted and grounded to the header so it was fine until i hit a bump and grounded it out then loss of power and no fuel..... i blew the little fuse in the fuse box under the hood. mine is a 96 as well. hope this helped. that fuse controls alot of things...

Thanks for the reply,
I checked the o2 wires and all is clear. The strange thing is it only happens when the a/c is on.
I drive 75 miles each way to work and no problem in the morning with the heat on ,only the afternoon with the a/c on? I dont get it!!!!!

What engine size? I'll be happy to pull up a diagram to see what I can find...may be able to give you some things to check.....

when you put the a/c on it makes the engine work harder. i just think you are putting a lot of stress on everything at one time and the a/c pushes it over the edge.

That won't pop a fuse...if it blowing a fuse he has a short...an to blow only with ac on it has to be a short in a circuit only powered up with ac on......

Thanks ya'll ,
Friday morning I got 15 miles from home and it blow on the interstate.
My xj is a 96 sport with a 4,o ,auto, and 150,000 miles on it . I have had it since it was new and have never had any problems with it. Friday I had the heat on and was getting up to the posted speed ,merging on to the interstate.
The 30 amp fuse is to the ASD and the hole system shuts down. The last two time's it pulled codes for open circuit cylinder 1 and 2.
Left the jeep at a friend and have not had time to go get it and read the codes this time.
any advice would be great.

I would trace the a/c wires into the loom and see if at some point they may have became damaged and melted together with another wire. Also check for any pinched wires.

Been doing some trials today. It only blows the fuse around 4000 rpm, under load. If I keep my foot out of it ,I cant make it blow.
Now it dosent seem to make a difrance if the A/C is on or not.
so confused!!!!!!!!!

I replaced the alt. twice in the last year, the first one was a reman. and the bearing's went bad so I bought a new one, not reman.Gauge reads normal and never goes over 14v.
Thanks for the replie ,just banging my head at this point.....
