This is how I'd hook up a 2WD Cherokee, if I had one. But I'm no off road'r. This does 9.18 in the 1/4! And it's street legal. World's Quickest Cherokee!

ok, so im honestly more into the off road prerunner stuff. my jeep bein 2wd thats prolly the direction im goin. so my correction: any good ideas for off road prerunner type stuff.......but not to crazy. this is still my daily driver
You will get good suspension travel (not "crawler" travel, but that's not what you're after), good ride, and good high-speed stability.
I built a pre-runner Toyota a few years ago that used to get play in the desert in West Texas.

3" lift and 31" tires for a pre-runner stance. New springs in the front and leaf springs in the rear. Stay away from spacers, blocks, and shackles because they change the suspension's lever-points. You want to keep the stability for high-speed offroad.

Yeah i know where one of thems sittin in a field right now actually... seen a mid 8's suburban dually too... guys just swap the extended fenders off the dually and swap axles... nothing to it really... all bolt in... dont know what fenders would work on a XJ though...lol... or axle for that matter... lol but wouldnt have to worry about traction... just room... lol
