Default 95 cherokee 4.0L HO stall/no start

Hey guys new to the forums so hi. I'm coming because I have an issue with my newly purchased jeep cherokee, it's a 95 cherokee fully loaded with the 4.0l ho motor with 101xxx miles . It all stock no mods. Note the previous owner use some degreaser to clean the motor off if that helps. The issue I'm haveing is it starts you can drive say 15 mins or until my temp gauge claims 210-220 range, at that point it stalls out as if I turned the key off. I've confirmed that it does not restart afterwards for about 4 hours or so or until it cools down all the way. I have limited supply of tools but however I just did the theromostat it did run at 215 fr about 20 mins on an idle. But I also noticed the temp gauge to move up to about 230. I also determined when I shut it off that it did restart about 5 times when pulling the battery negative off and keeping off for 2 mins. However after a few more tries to make sure it was a possible electrical issue it did not start then. So I am at a lost moment in time here I appreciate all the help and will be keeping a close on any responses to get back to you right away. Thank you very much for any help.

Sounds def like heat related issue. When you say stall out, is it bucking/sputtering in the minutes before or more like a "sudden death" ?

does the jeep smell hot when it stalls? if not , thats probably an electrical issue with the gauge . as for the stall. your CPS may be bad. when these go bad your jeep shuts off randomly and wont start up right away. also when you get the truck started. go under the hood and wiggle the PCM wires where they connect to it .if its problematic the jeep will stall out. i had the same stall issue with my 95. turned out that the pcm was bad. so i had to change it. havent had that issue since

It's not so much random as I can tell when it's gono happen or atleast know soon. It's more like sudden death just kinda shuts off nothing behand as if I turned key off

Def will check tommarow morning with the PCM an see if I looked right that near the front end on the right side correct?

There are a few write ups on how to change it out on here. But the best advise I can give you is to make sure that you get an OEM sensor. The after market ones are crap and many time are bad right out of the box and if they do work they usually have a very short life span.

What ever you do, make sure not to drop the bolt into the hole. It can be a real PITA to get it out. Let us know if the new CPS solves your problem. Good luck on the repair.
