I have a 94 cherokee 4.0 auto. When you take off from a stop it revs up really high before it shifts. It shifts fine when it does but it really revs up before it shifts. It also shifts once then you are going like 30mph so when your doing around 50 or so you are only in second gear but your at the top of the gear so your revved up again. I was planning on changing the TPS first and going from there. I also heard that it could be in the throttle valve cable adjustment or return spring but i dont see anything like that on my tranny. All is see is the gear shifter and the 4wd linkage. Any ideas on what could be the problem or anyone else had this problem??? Thanks for any help.

 

sounds like a torque converter went bad to me
