I just obtained a nice 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4.0l that is showing a problem with low power and error code 41. It started showing problems while bringing it home for the first time. This Jeep was well cared for and is in great condition overall. While on the freeway it lost power like it was starving for fuel. It would idle and start fine but would not provide power when throttle was depressed. Drove it home at around 15 mph.

During the troubleshooting I discovered an error code of 12 and 41. I measured the battery voltage with engine off and got 11.99 with 12.5 at idle. I charged the battery overnight and measured battery voltage at 13.5 with engine off. It showed 14.5 at idle. Headlight on dropped it a couple tenths of a volt. Engine now has normal power but error code 41 still shows up. What is normal alternator voltage at idle? Can low battery voltage of 11.99 cause it to lose pickup? Thanks for all help and advise. Don

Update on error code 41 on 94 Jeep Cherokee with poor pickup. I had the alternator checked out and found to be OK. When the battery was checked out under load it was found to be sulphated and not give full current. Replaced and the error codes went back to good (55). Vehicle runs great and full power. Don
