Spray some penetrant or lube of some kind in/on where the tranny and shaft meet and turn the shaft back and forth by hand; probably just dry. Be sure and apply some grease to the splines when re-assembling.

x2

Be patient - spray some penetrant and gently - I repeat, GENTLY - tap the collar with a hammer - you just want a little vibration to aid the penetrating oil. Give it 15 minutes and retry.
You want to support the weight of the shaft by hand and pull it straight back when you're removing it.
