'93 Cherokee 4.0L Timing Chain Guide?
My '93 Grand Cherokee 4.0L with 290,000 miles is making a rattleing noise form the lower front of the engine. I have run the engine without the accessory (serpentine) belt and the noise is the same.
I am guessing the timing chain needs replacement. I am preparing to order parts - timing chain set, front main seal and gasket set. I see that there is a timing chain GUIDE also listed. My Haynes manual has no mention or pictures of any guide.
Where does the guide fit on the engine?
I am assuming the guide needs replacement.
Thanks in advance,
Eddie

Cameron,
Thanks for the reply ... I'm getting hungry for that Happy Meal! Too bad it's a long drive from Seattle to SoCal.
I replaced the harmonic balancer about six months ago. I had started rubbing on the timing cover ... making a grinding noise.
Unfortunately, it looks likes the balancer is going to have to come off again.
Thanks,
Eddie

.. ..the tchain isnt all that bad of a job...good luckcameron
I ordered the parts today.
I also ordered the TIMING CHAIN GUIDE. I am not sure what the part is for or where it goes. I think it is a rubbing block that fits inside the cover. Better to spend $6 than to hold up the job waiting for one missing part.
Thanks for the help,
Eddie
