92 laredo fuel leak?
Hey everyone,
So I just bought a Cherokee for a birthday present and it runs good for having 310,008 miles as of today. I filled up the gas tank on Saturday drove home which is about 20 miles and didn't drive again until today from home to school which is round trip 35 miles. On the way home the gas light comes on. I don't think 55 miles can empty a tank.
A few important details:
1. The gauges aren't accurate - Speedo is off because of larger tire, oil pressure stays off the gauge and when I filled up the gas, the tank read quarter tank. I've read that the light usually works even if the gauge doesn't.
2. The exhaust is cut off at the muffler and is in pretty rough shape. It seems as if it needs to be replaced.
3. I couldn't see any leaks but I can smell strong exhaust gas for about 3-5 minutes after shutting it off.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jake

The floater must be broken if you aren't getting a proper fuel reading. As for leaking gas, you are going to have to go underneath and see where it is coming from. Might have to get new fuel lines, but check to see where it is leaking. Give it a good tune after you figure out what is wrong, remember it is a Jeep with 300k! Good luck.

Thanks,
I'm planning on giving it a tune up here in the next week or two. The good news is that mostly everything has been kept up with for 300,000 miles and runs good but doing the math would say i'm getting about 3 MPG . That's a little scary.

I'm wondering if there might be an issue with the float or the dash because the injectors where upgraded at one point, no leaks that I can tell of, it's not smoking, sputtering, struggling or hesitating.
