Angry 92 jeep Cherokee back up lights

back up light are not working on my 92 jeep Cherokee Laredo, automatic transmission, any suggestions? i did clean the NSS. it might just need a minor adjustment, to keep the starter detents and the reverse detents aligned.

Got an auto trans? If so it could be that the NSS (neutral safety switch) on it needs serviced. Any non engine cranking issues?

Not sure on your 92, but on the 90 and earlier XJs, if the "trans" fuse in the interior fusebox was blown you had no reverse lights.

Q:
Did you clean your NSS because your backup lights weren't working?
Or did your backup lights stop working after you cleaned your NSS?

If it starts in P and N then it is probably adjusted correctly...you might need to scotchbrite the contacts...smear with di-electric gel and try again...Have someone stand behind you as you SLOWLY move the handle through the ranges...see if the lights ever come on or flash...if not then bad connection/dirty
