Default 92 engine compatibility

so ive got a 92 with what im pretty sure is a rod knock and i was wondering what year 4.0 are compatible. ive searched the forum and all ive seen is talk of later years (96-01). just wondering what year engines would fit with little modifacation.

Any 4.0 HO shortblock or longblock will swap into your '92. Avoid the 2000-2001 cylinder head.

Ok sounds good, I've heard about the 00-01 issues so i was probobly just gonna do a 01 shirt block or a 99 long block

From what I've figured out swapping a 98 H.O. into my 94, the only changes are on the outside, and just sensors and wiring harness connections.

You might wanna give your flex plate a look and check out the bolts. Maybe a shot in the dark, but if the knock is from that area, it seems to be worth taking the inspection plate off and having a look see . It's prolly just with me though lol.
