Will a 92 cherokee auto trans fit in a 97 cherokee that had an auto trans?

Engine: 4.0 with all of the noise and clatter

No, there are just a few too many differences for it to be bolt in swap. Spline counts and electrical plugs are the major ones that come to mind.
