Default 89 xj shifts only in high RPM's

My friend has a 1989 CK and it just started shifting at around 4000 rpms. The fluid was changed a few months ago, so does anyone have any ideas? Thanks...Tj

OK here is some more info. My son-in-law washed under the hood yesterday of his 89 xj then it started shifting funny. Now it shifts ok but the trans will not down shift by itself, you have to do it manually...Tj

You got the TPS wet. might as well replace it or readjust it. May still need to replace it though. TPS does not like water AT ALL. I usually leave the motor running when I wash under the hood tends to help. I will also cover the TPS with a garbage bag.
