I thought older cherokees all had real gauges and the newer ones didnt?
Is it an option or does it come with different trims?

my '89 limited has real gauges.
it all depends on the trim package your jeep is if you got a base model it most liekly had lights... it was basically an option hope that helps

My '87 has actual gauges, but does not have a tach. I would love to have one, can I swap in just the tachometer itself, or will I need to swap out the entire cluster? Where does the tach plug in to? I assume since it just receives a signal from the ignition I may already have the necessary connection on my wiring harness?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows, I figure posting in here is better than making a new thread on basically the same topic....

If you can somehow figure out how to do this then I would love to know how and how much it costed
I'm getting ready to do this to my '91, I've been assured that everything is prewired, all that you have to do is replace the water temp sensor and oil pressure sensor plus install the new gage cluster. As soon as i get mine done I'll let you know if it worked!! Coach

I think you have to replace the whole cluster with one that has a tach, everything is supposedly wired up. Coach
