Default 89 dash light fuse keeps blowing

Still havent fixed my cruise control issue now this popped up. Went to turn on the headlights the other day and the fuse blew. Swapped a new one in and the same thing. Did what your not supposed to do and upped the fuse to a 20 or 25 instead of 15 and it stayed for a minute or two then blew. So obviously a problem but where to begin and how to diagnose? Would hate to swap out the headlight switch for nothing. ANy thoughts or tips?

Have you installed an aftermarket stereo recently? You may want to check and see if the wiring to the trailer plug (if you have one) is damaged and shorting out. No dash lights means no marker and tail lights too.

The radio is still the factory am-fm cassette. It does have a hitch but never noticed the plug. Will have to look. I know about the tail light thing, has me really concerned and is why I need to straighten this out pronto.

Been playing around in the rear hatch lately? Find a loose connector and decide to hook it up to see what it was?

Check to see if your license plate Light is burned out, that may cause funny things to happen to your dash lights.
