Default 89 cold air intake?

2 questions:

1. would I really get anything out of a cold air intake on my '89
2. K&N only makes back to 92 I think, where would I find one?

if you're planing on wheeling I dont suggest a CAI but you can always go with a snorkel or a good replacement filter on the stock air box, I suggest AmsOil dryflow filters,, PM whowey for that,, also in your stock airbox check on the top part on the tube that goes to the TB there is a piece of plastic that make the tube narrower inside, take that out and you get better flow.. hope that helps

jks it might help him if you posted a picture. And no one mentioned that in a dusty area K&N are not very good filters. They allow larger dust and dirt particles to enter your air intake. That is why Belto suggested the Amsoil filter, which is a freeflowing efficient filter. Probably the very best one in fact.

Do they offer a CAI? with this filter? or is it just a panel drop in?

They have both a cone and a rectangular drop in. Contact Whowey for specifics.
No complete kit is available you get the kit and replace the bad filter with a good one from Amsoil.

Jeep Jeep contact Whowey via PM. He will help you out to find if the part # that Belto gave you is correct for your particular year and model.

so do you hack the airbox AND install the amsoil unit, or do you have to have a basically stock airbox with the amsoil filter?

jkshavoc, love to see pix, got any?

There is no good CAI for the Rennys. I've searched high and low. Rusty's and Quadratech sell one that fits into your existing rubber tube, that's about as good as you're gonna get!! This is mine from Quadratech.
