Anyone know what the part that kicks in the fan is called i belive its some sort of module or sensor idk my second smaller cooling fan wasnt kicking in when i started it i noticed the temp climbing past 220 was just before the red when i shut it off.opened the hood started it up again walooked at both fans notcied the smaller one hadent been spinning i figured id give it couple mins still nothing i shut it off. i unplugged what appeared 2 be a sensor that went 2 the fan used a wire and jumped the fan it ran direct so now im thinking its deff the sensor and maybe the thermostat is sticking aswell it aint been driven in awhile. Is it called a relay???

the only problem with that site is it dont mention anything about the coolant temp sensor on the radiator controlling the fan i was told the coolant temp sensor on the radiator is stuck or bad which is whats causeing the fan to not kick in

There are two ways to chase this problem. If you have a/c simply turn it on and disconnect the plug at the fan. Check for voltage. Or just let it run and get hot. If still no voltage then the temp sensor is bad. You can wore around it if your in a hurry but best to replace it

ok well now ive replaced the sensor and the fan still wouldent kick on and my jeep got hot even after i got all the air out nothing no fan now im begining to think its the thermostat all along and my old coolant fan switch was still possiably working. i prolly wasted 25 bucks and i almost stripped the threads on the radiator plug when i stuck the plug back on. i was lucky enough to fix the plastic thread that was messed up. Does it sound like the thermostat is not opening right???

By the plug do you mean jump the sensor plug wires i have already jumped at the male end just before the relay so the relay kicked it on and the sensor in the pic is the one its actually called a coolant temp/fan switch if your wondering ive just replaced that as i stated before. I dont see how jumping that sensor would help wouldent u think its possiable theres no water getting into the block or not enough to allow that sensor to kick the fan on??? I understand what ur kinda saying but ive already bought the new sensor and replaced so i could technicaly test the old sensor but its not like i have someone wanting to buy the new sensor from me as of yet. Its a an oem replacement switch which u would think has been revised. Also i had very good heat coming out of my vents

when i bought my '88, the po had unplugged the coolant temp switch & jumped the circuit on the male end of the plug that comes out of the wiring harness. this caused the electric fan to be on all of the time, including acc. position. it was loud as hell, but it could sit for a while w/o temp climbing. right now, i've got it plugged in, & it doesn't even come on when i turn on the a/c. all signs point to the temp control sensor. as long as i'm moving, she's fine, but once she sits @ idle, she climbs quick! hopefully get it fixed soon.
