88 xj Rear Hatch Handle broke
hello,
its beautiful to live in alaska but it comes with ups and downs...
last time i tried to open my rear hatch and it was frozen shut and had to put a bit of strength on it and there you go snapped right off..
what am i looking at here ? ive been searching on the net but cant find anything how to replace this even as single part or whole locking mechanism.
thanks marc

You don't have to like in Alaska to break this part! Just broke the tabs off mine (handle is still more or less there but I can pull it off if I try). Dealer wants $54 for that part here in Canada. I'm thinking of using epoxy to glue mine to the gate but I'm sure someone will talk me out of that...
Also, might just attach a different style handle to the back fibreglass lift gate and use the lock button only to unlatch the lift gate.

i also think cause of the worn out liftgate arms there wasnt any help pushing the hatch lose and had to put all the strenght on the handle, this will probably be a complete fix new handle and new liftgate arms. also i was wondering if there might be some treatment for the rubber seal around the hatch that wont stick when it freezes as much as it does now.

The lowest price I found when I had to replace mine, including shipping, was from here:
