Default 87 Renix wont start

Been a long time reader and learned alot from here. Here's my problem, The jeep ran great up until last week. I started it and left it warm up 15-20 min. put it in reverse and as soon as I hit the gas it shut off. It would try to start but seemed like it wasn't getting gas. Replaced fuel pump, filter, regulator. New wires, plugs, cap and rotor. Checked CPS and readout was a steady 195ohm's. Every now and then it will start but run rough. Had it running for about 20 min. yesterday (but rough) I could rev the engine and it would have a slight miss. Then it shut off and now wont start again. Need help.

- Check and clean the CKP terminii (you can get tools to disassemble a Weatherpack in the HELP! section of the local parts house.) Note also that a CKP can start out with an intermittent heat-related failure - if you can get the business end of a hair dryer or a heat gun down there, you can heat up the sensor without running the engine. This will allow you to effectively isolate the component in terms of heat (if you heat it up and the engine won't start with everything else cold, replace.)

- Inspect the cap & rotor anyhow - even new ones can have crud on the terminii. Did you install one with brass posts or aluminum? I usually use BorgWarner - brass posts (aluminum isn't anywhere near as good.)

- A similar test method (heat-soaking) should be applied to the ignition control module - the coil is mounted to it. I've had one ICM failure - it was thermal in nature, and that was how I found it (this is why my toolbox has a hair dryer in it, along with other oddities...)

But you should never just "throw parts" at a failure. You end up "shotgunning" the repair, and you won't know which item repaired the problem. And, you'll end up spending far too much to get the job done. And, you won't learn anything from it.

Dunno about you, but I know I'd rather replace just one part - even if it's spendy and difficult to reach - than drop five hundred bones in parts and hope... Some most of RENIX can be troubleshot with a decent DMM, there's no excuse to not troubleshoot.

Oh - automatic or manual? I've noted that the TPS on an automatic can "wander" rather more than on the manual, needing adjustment just a bit more often. Adjusting the TPS is a simple process, doable in about fifteen minutes.

A "function test" of the TPS will require an analogue ohmmeter - you can't get a valid test with a digital - or analogue voltmeter. But, "flat spots" in the TPS response usually end up happening somewhere around part-throttle, and not at idle or WOT.

Its an automatic. Still trouble-shooting the issue. Cranks fine just nothing else happening. Every now and then it will try to turn over but just dont. Definatly don't want to just throw parts on it.

things i would test first in this issue would be crank sensor, fuel pressure, injector pulse, spark at the plugs, map sensor, tps,
