What is a good swap have a 2.8L right now but not enough power! Heard bad things about the 3.4L! Will a 4.3 vortech bolt up to tranny? Or will I have to change everything?

I have a 4.3L in my 86. But it is a lot of work. The 3.4L is a much better conversion. It has the one piece seal like the 4.3 and will give you 160 horse if you use the right year. It is bolt in. That 4.3 was anything but a bolt in. I wouldn't trade it now, but it was a lot of work.

4.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
190hp. 230ft lbs
Can be dune in a weekend if u can turn a wrench. It is one of the most reliable motors ever built. And if no one has told u here is a secret. But don't tell anyone. Jeep died when they stopped using it. I would never run a different motor. I might make a 4.0 into a 4.7 or even run a turbo or supper charger. But I will never run a different motor!

350 Small Block.

Although the 4.3L V6 is really a 350 with two cylinders lopped off.

The problem with going with the 4.0L I6 is the wiring. His '86 is carbed, plus the 4.0L won't bolt to the transmission. It can be done, but it'll be a lot of work. Of course, so would a 4.3L or 350...

The 3.4L is, sadly, the only 'easy' choice. Everything else will require fab work and a new transmission, maybe more.

You have to change the hood, header and radiator. It requires a donor vehicle. It is not as simple as it sounds.
