86 Cherokee wont shift out of 4 lo

I am going to look at am 86 for sale that wont shift out of 4 low.

Price is dropping fast on it, and I may be able to buy it cheap.

Any common causes for being stuck in 4 low?

I did some more searching,

Looks like its either stuck due to lack of use or stuck due to internal wear/damage.

I agree, check the linkage. My buddies wrongler was stuck in 4lo, got under the jeep and messed around with the linkage.

Also could be internal problem. Just got done dealing with 90 YJ stuck in low turned out to be bad fork. Had to rebuild t-case and add SYE kit. 850 bucks later/.

a used NP231 around here will run about $75
