ok ive been looking all over the place trying to find a replacement fuel sender for my '85 2.8 v6 and i cant seem to find one. I purchased one off parts train.com that said it was a direct replacement and it turned out to be a top mount vs a side mount... i was looking at some newer versions of the cherokee... would a 87 fuel sender with in tank electric pump be able to work with my tank or would i have to upgrade the tank as well... o yea ... and i talked to every parts store as well as jeep... no stock replacement there neither... thanks for any help

 

Sounds like a junk yard part!!!

 

An 87 would work, except you would have to do a little modification. it is designed for and in tank fuel pump. You would just extend the tube down in place of the pump.
