Default 8.25 swap questions...

And so it begins. Picked up an 8.25 at the junk yard a few months ago and am getting ready to swap out the D-35. I plan to replace the spider gears, seals, bearings, all brake lines and install a set of disc brakes before I swap it out. Going to grind and paint as well.

Any other recommendations while it is on the floor and a lot easier to work with?

New u-bolts should be on your list as well.

I did the exact same thing. Installed an Aussie Locker in mine. If you happen to be thinking about installing a locker, I wouldn't recommend doing what I did. Not for your DD. It does provide the advertised locking effect...but behaves badly around town.

Also, be sure to change out the wheel studs in your 8.25 axles for the longer ZJ studs. If you don't, you'll barely have enough threads to bolt on an aluminum wheel. Steelies will be OK. Rear discs are thicker than the drums, and so need longer wheel studs.

I installed ceramic brake pads from Carquest. My jeep now has really good brakes. Must do all 4 corners; I just put them on the rear when I installed the 8.25 and had the jeep try to swap ends when entering a corner on a gravel road. Same pads in the front and now all is good. I have yet to install the ZJ proportioning valve. Need to do that.

Older models have been said to be rougher than Aussie's new and improved design that is more DD friendly. Also can't gas it around corners. If it's a newer model and you don't like it send it my way!

Yeah, I learned that. Give it some gas to get it rolling then coast around the corner. Alot less drama.

Yes, they are called Lunchbox/Auto lockers, all do the same thing but each one have different characteristics for the road depending on design.

I bought a set of U-bolts from my local Autoslut. In stock, twenty dollah. Made in China. Made of cheese I think, as I promptly stripped the threads off them when I tried to tork them down.

SO I bought these (they are not made of cheese):http://www.currieenterprises.com/ces...6.aspx?id=3952
