Default 7 prong trailer plug

if i have a 7 prong trailer plug on my bumper does that automatically mean the electric brakes will work or do i need an electric brake kit?

No, they aren't going to work. You'd have to have a brake controller. Any ole Joe could have spliced in a 7-pin plug.

How many wires are running into the plug? What color are they?
