20? you must really be babying that thing, when i first got it stock at 120,000 it had real small tires and no lift or nothin and it got 20 maybe on a good day, when i lifted it and put bigger tires, it got 14 or 15, put a CAI and some of those e3 spark plugs, flowmaster exhaust, high flow cat and it started doing around 16, 17, 18, 19 on average. i treat my motor nice but i do not putt putt around like an old grandma

Oops, your right I reversed open and closed loop modes. Brain fart. Getting old!
My 1999 bone stock gets 17.0 to 17.8 per tank in the summer months. (Less in the winter). I document every tank.
We live in the country so we have a mix of back roads and trips to town.

Don't know what my 1998 gets with 31's. The speedometer is off slightly because of the bigger tires. The trip computer says 15.2 mpg.

oh and i forgot, you have to put into consideration my huge *** Bumper and winch on the front and thats huge rear bumper, and the speakers in the back. that all adds up as weight, those speakers in the back alone weigh a little over 100 pounds.

heck no, I beat the crap out of it. I run it to 4,000rpm on a daily basis. Even when cruising down the highway at 80mph I still averaged about 16mpg

I do have an AX15 which probably helps with the gas milage

Zach...That AX15 should be good for 1 mpg city 2 mpg highway maybe??? Your still getting great mpg's for your setup. Better leave that alone. Gas should be going up rather quickly with the nastiness going on in the world.

Metlic, You ought to think about the 195 stat. Would most likely help your mpg's.

What do you mean quiter? its by no means quite. It has no carpet, there's some bad wind noise and my rear brakes are FUBAR, not rebuildable and grinding metal on metal(i'm swapping in a different D35 to fix that as soon as I can). Not to mention I have a glasspack and gutted cat.(the incabin noise from it is almost nothing but ppl give me looks all the time for how loud it is outside)

Eh, i'm not planning on leaving it alone. gonna go 1" or more higher and get me some 33s or 34s I have a Toyota Tercel for getting better gas milage. thing will get 35mpg once I finally get the new engine in it.

so mike you think i'll get better than 17mpg when i change my thermostat back to the 195? i highly doubt that. it didn't when i was running a 195 thermostat, makes no sense, the looping thing does but it clearly hasn't affected my XJ. I think my XJ knows what i did and is computing it in with its calculations

quieter from experience with standard xj's. i've been on a jeep jamboree and saw a few, and i could barely hear the motor they were so quiet. i like mine loud and with a throaty note to it.

The funny thing about XJ's and their mpg's is they seem to vary greatly. When was the last time you did a plug, cap, wires, plugs tuneup? That 1998 I have that's showing in the 15's consistantly only has 47,000 miles on it. Go figure.

yeah, mine is by no means quite. of all my buddies that I go wheeling with its the loudest besides the guy with a Borla header and straight pipe. Its not a bad sound though, I really like the sorta throaty rumble it has at idle

Oh. your the one that said that... I knew someone had. I'm signing off, too tired.
I'd still go back to the 195 stat though. You are right your computer is compensating for the 160 stat, but not in a good way.

Talk to ya' later...
