how easy would it be to mount a 6 speed from a 07+ wrangler in a cherokee? im guessing maybe hard cause it's designed to mount on a 3.8L idk......
Izzat the NSG370? I foresee to major issues:
1) I don't know if the bellhousing has a mounting spot for the CKP - or even if it's right for the AMC242 CKP if it does.
2) I don't know what bellhousing pattern it uses, but I know it's not the AMC, and I'm fairly sure it's not the Chrysler LA Block, either.
Neither problem is really insurmountable. HESCO makes a kit to relocate the CKP to the front end of the engine (reading trigger notches in a modified harmonic damper,) and adapter plates have been used to bolt transmissions up to engines they weren't designed for (I recall seeing Ford C6 slushboxen behind Chrysler RB block engines, for instance. That builder had more C6s than A727s - which is why.) I do know that the NSG370 has an integral bell, so you can't go with changing the bell (like the AX-15, NV3550, and others.)
You may want to check Novak to see if they already make an adapter plate to bolt the NSG370 to the AMC - that would save you having to design and machine one!
Nearly everything else you'll have to deal with is sheetmetal work, so that's not a big problem.
I'm not sure how strong the NSG370 is tho - I'd considered doing a six-speed swap, but I was leaning more toward the NV5600 (which would require much more sheetmetal work to do - it's a bigger box. However, it goes behind the Chrysler LA488/LA505 and Cummins 6-359, so you know it's tough!)

from wikipedia.............
2003 to 2004 featured a standard NV3550 five-speed manual transmission, which changed in 2005 to the NSG370, a Mercedes-sourced six-speed. The optional 42RLE four-speed automatic transmission was available from 2003 to 2006.
Hm. And since the 6-242 was in production until EOY MY2006, they must have had an adapter plate or somesuch (I can't see doing a whole casting run for one year on the cases for the NSG370 - since I know it's got an integral bellhousing.)
If you can get your paws on an adapter plate, it would be useful to take a series of pictures with various scales or rules in it. Better - if you find two, get them both (if you can) and loan one to someone who can draw it (I volunteer...) This would be a useful thing for people to know about...

did it myself. Went from automatic to 6 speed manual behind a stroke 4.0 to 4.7
Its fun to drive but its not a quick shifting transmission. it is definitely not a soft shift.
the ratios are perfect all the time.
It fits fine except where the CPS mounts on the transmission. you can only use that spot on the transmission if your original flywheel has 3 sets of notches equally divided around. You have to use original year flywheel. I had to hammer in the hump the size of a child's fist to not break an other CPC.
Also the transfer case is clocked up a little bit. No issues there.
The Transmission cross member needs to be lowered an inch.
All and all, Im happy with it. great for towing heavy loads. Revs a little faster on the highway but that makes me happy. more power available and the engine works less.
