5.0 motor swap
The only question i have is why are you wanting to install a 5.0 in the first place.
Unless your going to run something bigger then 35's daily the 4.0 will do everything you need. Plus if you do go bigger then 35's your going to need a good size lift and new axles since the dana 30 front axle wont handle the tourqe of the 5.0 with anthing bigger then 35's unless you do some decent build on the dana 30 then you might as well just swap it out with a dana 44 front axle.
I have a cousin that has a 1994 cherokee sport with a 5.0 out of a 93 gt and he is always have major issue on the trail with breaking axles and also overheating all the time.
I can ask him what he used to hook everything up like what adaptors he used.
But to learn from his mistakes make sure you spent good money on bigger axles if you plan to run anything over 35's and also get a good size radiator upgrade and you will need to run a electric fan and waterpump do to fitment issues.
His is a nice build but it not a budget build by any means i think he spent about 6,000 after finally upgrading the cooling system and putting a dana 44 up front and also having to install a 5" lift to clear the pan.
If you want more info i can get it from him.
As for installing a 5.0 vs a 350 chevy both will have some plus's there great aftermarket for both of course but the chevy will have great jeep aftermarket adaptor wise since alot of wrangler/cj7 had 350 swapped in them but you will still be able to find adaptors for the 5.0 with out a issue also the 350 does have the advantage of no oil pan issues's but if your more comfortable with a 5.0 then go with what you know.

x2, and having mud and dirt constantly making its way into the motor and all the elements beating onto the 4.0s, id say they live hard lives
Also as for mpg dont expect anywhere near 25mpg he gets about avg 16 mpg if he doesnt romp it all the time.
If you want a good idea look at a 1995 ford explorer with the 5.0 option they get around 14 to 17 mpg and are alot more aero dynamic then the cherokee is, granted it is about 500lbs heavier but you get the idea.

well i didnt want this to happen. sorry i caused a fight, everyone has there own preferance for a motor..but you cant argue that a 302 is a much more powerful motor all around. and will get better gas mileage...ive read up on some other 5.0 swaps from a 4.0 and everyone said the gas mileage went up....MIKE H said it all in his post..you cant argue with those numbers especially with those horrible stock heads that are on a 302.
theres your proof right there that 302 will get better gas mileage. if ur running a carb and a 5.38 gear and ur gettig the same gas mileage as a motor one liter smaller thats just sad.
and i think everyone will agreed a cammed 302 sounds much better then a 4.0 will ever sound lol..i say go big or go home lol
anyway lets stop asking why and just get back to the basics of the swap. i really appriciate all your guys help on this subject and sorry again i caused a debate

Never though about mud bogging... ya I'd say it's comparable if you beat the rig in the bog.

That's why you got crappy gas mileage.
At best with a V8 and 33's you'd want to be running 4.56 to 4.88 gears.
You lost your gas mileage cause you went for a torqy set-up not a gas mileage setup.
In a wheeling rig that's great but if you wanted mileage you'd run a different gearing.
Just my $.02 on the topic.
I'm also a die hard 302 fan.
put a turbo on the 5.0 and make 400+... bore/stroke the 5.0 add the turbo and 500+hp is within reach.

i kinda think this needs to be brought up cause he is not asking opinions on the 4.0's gas mileage in comparasion to the 5.0, he is asking if the swap has been done and what to use for adapters, it seems like his mind is already made up on the SBF so why discuss the 4.0
just thought id butt in
