So I just bought a 1994 xj from a guy and he said that the 4x4 doesn't work. So I tried to engage it and it does but when I start moving there's a loud knocking sound. Is this a simple fix? Someone help please!

 

Sounds like the chain in the tcase its pretty simple to repair just like a bicycle chain. Me on the otherhand have a damn hole in my trasfer case and have to fork out 500 bucks for a re built one offline. Hope everything works out!

 

1. go to junkyard and pull one for less than $100.
