Hy guys. I drve a 96 xj wit a 6 inch lift. For some reason when i put thething in 4 wheel drive it is almost impossble to get it out. I think it may be something wrong with the linkage, or t case. You pretty much have o just keep slamming it back and forth for a while until it disengages. The part-time light will go off, but it doesnt come out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Did you do a transfer case drop?
If so take a look underneath and you will see that the pin that goes from a bracket mount on the body then to the transmisson is bent down... the pin is where the rod from the actual lever (transfer case shifter) to a rod that goes back into the transfer case or range lever that actually shifts it into 2wd, part-time, full-time, 4lo etc... this pin that is now crooked from the transfer case drop is originally level from the body mount to the transmisson..
I had this exact problem and there are mods you can do or purchase online...
But I found that white lithium grease did the trick for me.. I have a 4.5" lift and my Xcase drop was a 1.5" I believe... Grease the linkage up and see if that does the trick... I had to screw around for a bit to find out the problem but my rig was hopeless until I greased the linkage and has been working for several months nicely since.
