Default 4wd Converison Question

So my dads boss has a 4wd cherokee just sitting in his yard and my dad is going to ask him about it to see if he wants to get rid of it because the motor is blown. Its a stick shift and if i make mine 4wd will i have to swap out transmissons from the other jeep or will i be able to keep mine a automatic? I know a few people on her made their 2wd jeeps 4wd.

I'm also trying to gather parts for a 4x4 conversion and you will need to get a 4x4 transmission as well as the t-case and front driveshaft and axle. Your 2WD trans is longer than a 4x4 trans and won't bolt up to the t-case. Also, swapping over to the 5-speed will be a rather involved process as well. It's susally best to try to find a donor that is as similar to your own rig as possible, and as close as you can get in model years too. It'll only make the whole conversion easier for ya.

Yep the Funk Master is correct. Your best bet is to find an XJ that is the same as yours, except a 4x4, and scavenge parts from it. Or just buy one that is 4x4, that is the easiest way to do it, IMHO.

less u wanted to make yours a 5 speed no need to buy the 5 speed jeep. only thing u could use off it would be the front axle and if its a old one it would not be worth it, less its got a dana 44 in the back. so if u want to make yours 4x4 then just find a auto jeep thats 4x4 and use all that stuff or fix whatever wrong with the 4x4 jeep with parts off your 2wd jeep
