Default 4 hi grindage...

i'm looking at buying a 95 cherokee sport straight 6 h.o. part time 4 wheel drive. the problem is when you go to put it into 4 hi it grinds and feels loose. sometimes it goes in no problem then it drives fine ( well at least during the test drive ) so it pretty much won't engage 2 out of 3 times and when it does then no problem. any ideas on the issue and cost...thanks.

Could just be a misadjusted shifter...

there should not be a button next to it, not from the factory at least.... (my girlfriends 96 doesnt)

Ive never had to adjust teh shifter, maybe crawl under it and have someone move it back and forth so you can see if there is any play in it?
Hopefully someone can give you some more info on that.

i hope it's just the shifter. not some worn out gears or something.
