Question, how swapable are the 2.5 engines between XJ years? Specifically, could a fuel injected 96 engine (along with all the FI parts and electronics) get swapped into an 85 XJ in place of it's bad carbureted 2.5? Are the blocks between those years essentially the same?

Pretty sure the blocks are the same all the way through the years. The 4.0L has the same bellhousing bolt pattern so they should all swap.

You will probably have to swap all the wiring to make it compatible though.

I am keeping the carb in my 85, but I am going to upgrade to a Weber two barrel and ditch the single barrel unit for better mileage and low end torque.
