4.6L stroker
So my motor may be on its last leg due to a hydrolock incident (https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/hydrolocked-13787/) So if im gonna have to do a swap im going to due a stroker. Im aware it will be more expensive and time consuming but i think it would be a good learning expierence what do you guys think anyone have any expierence with stroking a motor.
BTW i will be watching the trucks build

An engine swap is easier. But the stroker makes more power. Building the 4.6L stroker-(putting the crank and rods from the 4.2L AMC engine into the 4.0L block)- takes a little work, but because of the larger size it puts out about 70 more HP than a 4.0L. There's a write-up on here some where showing pics. just have to find it.

The 4.0 has a larger bore than the 4.2 does. So look at it another way. If you "could" bore out the 4.2 big enough to take the larger 4.0 pistons, you would have the long stroke of the 4.2 and the big bore of the 4.0= 4.6. And if you go ".060 over pistons you get 4.7. Get it now!

That would be an awesome way to turn an unfortunate situation into a sweet upgrade. I'd say go for it if you have the funds and the patience. It sounds like you have the support of your teacher on your projects. I'd bet he'd be all over a stroker project.
For what it is worth, the Trucks! episode is a really brief run through and other than a quick glance at some o the major elements, it is pretty worthless. Still...it would give you a general perspective. If you do it, please take tons of photos.

Iv been toing witht the stroker idea but everything i have read thus far has been a bit confusing some pple seem to have good luck with it and other have tons of probs so im looking more into it iv just started my search havnt come up with much yet cuz i definitly dont want to do the kits that are out there i may as well buy one allready built for the kit price!! so if i come across any solid info on the subject i will post up here.
stroker does sound like a lot of fun. I would like to put one in my 4x2 lerado and super charg it that just sounds like it would be a great time

You should check out jeepstrokers.com for more stroker info. That site has plenty of detailed stroker builds, advice on which exact parts to choose and some pretty good articles on basic stroker tech for those just beginning to learn about the jeep stroker..

I have a feeling that Trucks! is not done with their build yet. They just showed the tear down. I know they'll do a post-build dyno run and that hasn't been done yet either. Just stay tuned and we'll see I guess.
