Ive got a 89 4.0 and it hard to get started I fooled withe the CPS and it started starting a little better for a couple days but it went back to starting rough Ive ohmed out the CPS and it is 2howing 200+ ohmes when the switch is off with it turning over it drops to somewhere around 150 ohmes is this normal or does the CPS need to be replaced

 

Yes that is within range. Try this second test as well.


You'll need a friend to help ya with this one.
Set your volt/ohm meter to read 0 - 5 AC volts or the closest AC Volts scale your meter has to this range. Measure across the CPS leads for voltage generated as your friend cranks the engine. (The engine can't fire up without the CPS connected but watch for moving parts just the same!) The meter should show .5 - .8 VAC when cranking. (That's between 1/2 and 1 volt AC.) If it's below .5vac, replace it. HTH

You CPS may still be okay it may just be the connector. They are sensitive
