The gears are good for light crawling with an automatic and an open or LSD front. If you will be crawling bigger stuff or using a manual, you'll need to go lower, 5.13 range, or a tera flex 4.1 transfer case gear set, or better yet both. You would also need to go to alloy 30 spline shafts, or plan on carrying spare shafts and changing them often, and weld on a axle truss to keep the light duty 30 from flexing, or just get a high pinion Dana 44.

not to thread-jack, but if you plan on putting a 44 up front, i recommend doing that to the rear also. or maybe even 60s. really depends on hard you plan on wheeling. i run 35s on stock axles, do many trails rated double black diamond, and do just fine. i just use very little skinny pedal.

You will need a Hi pinion driver side drop Dana 44, and I haven't been looking for one so I don't know where you could find one or in what they come in stock. So I guess it is time for you to do some research.

The Dana 44 I was discussing was for the front. A Chrysler 8.25 will be easier to find than a early 4 banger Dana 44.

Early broncos and scouts so good luck with that. Full with is way eazyer to come by. Mid 60 to mid 70 f series pickups. But with only running 33s I would stick with the d30 more then enuf. I would get one from a 97-99. More beef in the joints and still high pinon.
