My radiator for my 97 XJ Police Interceptor, needs to be replaced, and would like a good 3 row radiator for my XJ.

With proper working cooling system a factory replacement 2 rows all you need ,upgradeing to grand Cherokee fan clutch is a good upgrade.

 

Police? Perhaps. Interceptor? No. It won't go fast enough (most Police Interceptors - purpose-built Crown Vic or Caprice - is rated to go up to about 185-190mph at top speed. You're doing good if an XJ can break 100... )

However, any standard all-metal 3-row core should work fine. I've heard good things about CSF, and I've been able to buy Modine (Canadian) or Performance Radiator (Thai) locally for a good price. The Modine or PR units are all copper/brass - I know the CSF is all metal, I just can't recall if it's copper/brass or aluminum. (Given a choice, I prefer copper/brass over aluminum, hands down.)

 

The Crown Vic doesn't go anyway near that fast. The Police interceptor Crown Vic tops out at 140 mph (2004 and newer, 130 mph for older models). Police package Chargers can do 150 mph.

 

I pissed a cop off once when he told me his Charger would run 150. I told him my Thunderbird would outrun it. Next night he pulled me over and impounded my car. OOPS!

 

Furd cop cars are P71 and GM cop cars are 9C1......what designation do cop Chargers have?

 

There are several designations based on the various options offered they all start with AY, the model name for the whole series is the Dodge Charger Pursuit:

AYE - Base
AYF - Patrol
AYH - Patrol #2
AYM - Patrol #3
AYN - Slick Top
AYP - Slick Top #2

Michigan state police testing (2001) showed the XJ a mere 1/2 second slower to 60 MPH than the Ford Police Interceptor, and faster than the Chevy Impala .
The first year tested- '93- the Cherokee beat the Crown Vic around the handling track.

Hi All,

It gets mighty hot in S Fl, so a 1 row wont cut it. I need a heavy duty 2 or 3 row, that will fit my XJ. The MJ radiators wont fit, as the last Commanche rolled out in 1992, and my XJ is a 1997.

Should be the same radiator. 92 and 97 are still 4.0 HO.
