Our son drove ours 447 miles back to school Saturday.....averaged 22.1 mpg doing 70-80 mph.
We do have a CEL and will be installing a simulator to turn it off.
For the posters without cats, read the sticky at the top of the Cherokee tech page.
I'm getting my whole exhaust redone because whatever the PO did, the welds are very porous. I'm planning on getting 2.5" pipe, regular cat and muffler (getting tired of all the noise)

3" pipe will kill the performance of most V8's. We recently did a Magnaflow 2 1/2" exhaust with a turn down on our '98 4.0L XJ. Great performance and sound, stainless steel and lifetime warranty.

Yep, good point. We were a little rushed for time so the plan is to order a mandrel bent 180 and 90 to exit out the side in front of the tire.
dont know where you live, but here it has to "exit behind the passenger compartment" which, for a cherokee means you have to have it go all the way to the back (stock location)..
I dont think its enforced too much around my area, but I dont know about you. Mine exits under the back seat...

The setup you are going for is gonna drone like sum *****! As already posted...you will lose so much from no back pressure. It's a straight six..not a V8! It might end up sounding kinda ricey! I did straight pipes on a V6 with no resonators, 2.5" pipes and lost a ton of HP and torque. Ended up tearing it all off and just throwing a flowmaster 44 on it with resonators. It still had a really harsh drone at highway speeds.
Try just changing the muffler and header first ...see how you like it. You would see some mild gains in HP from these 2 changes.
Just my 2 cents!

Make it come out the back. If you take your Jeep offroad at all...having it come out infront of the wheel or drop down...it will get torn off pretty quick.
