Did a search and couldn't really find anything. I'm trying to buy a Jeep Cherokee in the near future and there aren't any 4x4s that are available in the area I'm in but there are some 2x4s. I was wondering how tough and expensive would a conversion be. Would it be easier to just spend a couple thousand more for a 4x4?
id wait and find a 4x4..... to do it right from a 2wd your just about need a complete donor 4wd to get all the parts you need.
Your also $ ahead if you can find one someone else has already installed a lift/tires on etc.

Unless you can get lucky and find a wrecked one with a good drivetrain. Im in the process of doing this with a once 2wd 4 cylinder Comanche to a 4x4 L6 Comanche. I have a drivetrain out of a YJ and its proveing to be a pain in the *** to get everything figured out with the frame horns and motor mounts, wiring etc.

I found a cheap 4x4 for less than a 1000 bucks that's not in good shape as far as running. Sounds like it's more of a pain than its worth. Looks like I'll be traveling to go get my first Cherokee.
