2wd driveshaft orientation.

OK, I goofed. Took the driveshaft out of my 99 sport 2wd to replace both U joints and once I took the slip yoke U joint out and set the shaft aside, I couldn't identify which end of the driveshaft it was originally attached to.
Physically it will attach to either end of the shaft as the u joints are the same. However, I'm not sure if there is a difference.
Does the forward / rearward orientation of the driveshaft make a difference?

I'll bite. The shaft by itself is effectively just a length of balanced pipe so why would fore and aft orientation matter?
