I am considering swapping out my 242 for my 231 that is on my parts jeep. The 242 has no 4wd Lo and if it is anything other than a linkage issue I want to swap it for the 231. Also I can pull the 231, install an SYE, all while still driving my DD (the 231 would minimize down time during SYE install). So here's my question: the 231 is bolted up to an AX-15, but the jeep it would be going into has an AW4. I have yet to find a straight answer as to whether or not the 231 will bolt right up without any modification. If I do have to modify it what do I have to do?

I run a 242, built a direct linkage shifter and it's fine. The stock shifter sucks, and often slips out of adjustment. Before I fixed it Mine wouldn't stay in 4l. I run the **** out of it. From what I've read, it's actually slightly stronger than the 231. Unfortunately it has no aftermarket support to speak of.

 

Do you have any pictures of the linkage you built? I'm all for building stuff if I can, easier on the wallet.

This would be cheaper.

But if it isn't a linkage issue and I end up swapping the cases, will the 231 from the AX-15 bolt right onto my aw4 without modification?
