I like my 242, in the winter at iced over intersections the "full time" provides just enough drive to the front wheels to help taking of without all the wheel spin. offroad the "full time" selection is useless, thats when "part time" comes into play.

I love my 242. Icy roads don't stand a chance. So much so that it's hard to slide corners. My dad's XJ with the 231 though, that thing drifts very nicely in part time, which is bad lol. If I lived in an area where winter was nonexistent then I'd go with the 231. But I live in MN so the 242 is a no-brainer for me.

I like to use my "Full Time" in rain on oily pavement. I can take corners doing 30+ without even breaking traction at all. Iv beat lifted decked out pre runners in the rain because they are only 2 wd. Nothing but tire spin on those things. Love the way "Full Time" hooks in the rain on pavement. I do not have experience on ice or snow but am sure its a very comfortable and stable ride without loss of traction.

So if I swap my 242 for a 231 then the only thing that will not be exactly right is the stickers on the 4WD shift lever will not line up. And someone said lockers might be a problem with the 242?
