First off, sorry if this is already answered. Not a lot of luck searching; I think I am using the wrong lingo. Read lots of interesting posts though!

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I got a few months ago, and it runs great, and has been great in winter storms. Got studded snows this fall, and she is there for the bad days (when I am not driving my 2008 Cadillac CTS!). It was great in the ice/snow yesterday. But I digress.

I can't change the airflow direction on the heater. The blower sure works fine, but the air blows mainly through the defrost (a good place to be stuck I guess). I turn the control, hoping to direct down to my freezing legs, but nothing.

Reading posts here, is this a vacuum hose thing? A broken switch (is it electric?)? A self-fix, or do I take this to the mechanic? I have fixed/hacked a lot of things in my day, but don't want to get in over my head. Tried looking around, but it is a completely different animal from any other vehicle I have seen (I usually drive old luxury cars).

My wife's pristine (garaged) 2005 Limited always gets "fixed" by a pro (OK, I do some simple things), but the theory was that mine was the one used for extreme weather/dump runs/Home Depot runs/etc.. I started giving her TLC lately, as she was not treated like a lady in the past. Just trying to save some $ so I can put it into her in other ways.
