Default 2003+ Cylinder head fit on a 2000?

I purchased a 2000 Cherokee 4.0 and I have a very small crack inthe cylinder head. Its very very small, but I need to change it asap on a budget before it wipes out my bearings. Oil PSI is still great.

From what I understand 2003 and new I6 heads are the TUPYcasting. Will any 2003+ 4.0 I6 head fromGrand Cherokee/Wrangler fit on my 2000 Cherokee with no modifications?

Yeeees. Those are the only places to get TUPY heads. 0630 from 1996 (or 1997) to 1999 will also fit, but do not have the tapped bosses for mounting the coil rail, so you have to get creative.

You figure out what cause the XJ to overheat yet? I bet the previous owner ignored everything. Any signs of stop leak junk?

I never said it was over heating And it's not. Actually it runs good, but after I shut it off I can see very very small amount of coolant bubbling out of what looks to be a small crack in head straight down under oil filler cap between 3-4. I know older heads you have to use a whole new manifold.

So if I find a 03+ head it's direct swap, no modifications needed? Looks like I can get 03+ one from a junk yard for half the cost of a new one.

The 03 head is a direct replacement for the 2000 0331 head. Do not believe any of the crap you have read or heard about an older 0331 head having overheated to cause it to crack. I think it is not a question of IF the older 0331 head will crack. I believe it is a question of WHEN the head will crack. I have owned a 2000 XJ since new, that has never overheated, but it did crack at 142,000 miles.
