Hey guys, new here. Just bought 2001 XJ 82k, garage kept and really nice. Only issue is that when stopping the rear end or tranny feels like it wants to jerk forward just a little right at the point when I am coming to a complete stop. It looks like there is a little leak around the rear end cover. Not sure if its a tranny issue or a rear end issue, i'm leaning toward rear end. So again, when i'm stopping and nearly there, 1 mph or so, I feel a little jerk, then it stops just fine. Thanks.

"ABS? I had a work van with abs do that and it was a bad hub. Not sure why that messed up the abs but it did kinda the same thing."
I should have mentioned it, but mine doesn't have ABS, so that's not it. Thanks though.

Sounds like it is time for a good old break inspection, inspect all for sets of breaks for wear, damage and check for evidence of leaking seals on the rear.
Since you noticed a leak, I would suggest changing rear end oil also.

....thanks again, but its not the brakes, the drums, shoes, and front discs and pads are new. Its not a stopping problem. its literally just a fraction of a second before the vehicle hits zero mph, it sort of moves a tiny bit then stops fine. Its not repetative or pulsing like brakes, it ONLY happens just before zero, and occasionally when moving FROM a stop, it feels a little bit like a stall but its defintely not the engine, its mechanical. Also, there is a bit of oil around the rear diff. Is it just low on lube maybe? Also, if I come to stop VERY slowly it doesn't do it usually. Like the gears in the diff have time to slow themselves, if I stop quickly its like the gears want to turn a couple more teeth before stopping. I hope that helps, and again thanks for the quick responses.
