Default 2001 XJ AC issue

So, my AC will blow cold for 20-30 min, then only hot air. Any ideas? If I park it and it cools down, it will do it again.

My 1996 had the same issue which turned out to be the AC clutch. The clutch pad thickness gets reduced due to wear. Once it gets hot the gap is too large to engage. I removed one of the shims (washer) to reduce gap and it worked fine ever since. Will have to search for the procedure and recommended gap size.

Following is a youtube video for removing one of the three shims. I forget what the specified gap is supposed to be.

I dont know about the 2001, but the FSM for my 97 says the air gap spec is 0.41 to 0.79mm (0.016 to 0.031 inch).
